By the end of this task, you'll have sent review request emails to a list of your customers, each linking straight to your Google review form. Review count and star rating are both strong local ranking signals, and asking directly is the fastest way to grow both.
Before you begin: You need an active Semrush Local Essentials or Pro subscription, and the location must be connected to Google Business Profile. Review Generation is unavailable until the connection is made.
Step 1: Open Review Generation for your location
- Go to Local > Review Management
- Find the location you want to request reviews for. If it sits in a group, click View locations to expand the group first.

- Select the Review Generation tab
Step 2: Start an email and choose a template
- Click + New email
- Use the arrows under Choose a template to select a template. Whichever one is displayed will be sent to your customers.

Each of the 3 templates shows your business name, address, and a link to your Google review form.
Note: Google permits businesses to request reviews as long as no incentive is offered. The templates are built to comply.
Step 3: Add your customers and send
- Enter up to 200 customer email addresses under Add customers, 1 per line
- Click Send email
What to expect
After you send, requests appear in History, where the Status column tracks delivery and the Result column shows whether each email was opened or clicked. Response rates are highest when you send soon after a service or purchase, while the visit is still fresh.
Frequently asked questions
Google reviews matter for local rankings because both review count and average star rating feed into how Google ranks local results. More reviews also give you more to respond to, and responding is itself a signal Google reads.
Review Generation supports the USA, UK, Australia, Germany, and France.
Semrush uses the customer data you upload only to send review requests. You need to accept a data processing agreement before sending, and the process is GDPR compliant.
